Pan Harmonia is born
In 2011, Keowee Chamber Music became Pan Harmonia. This didn’t signal a complete change in the nature of what we produce, but rather a broader and more inclusive expression of the work.
Pan Harmonia has provided new room for growth. Our programs are very diverse and exceed the label of “chamber music,” which too often limits the public’s perception of the music and is an obstacle for many people. The music cannot fit into a neat box, and “chamber music” doesn’t fully represent the diversity of the art.
The name change has helped us to recognize this company’s strengths and allow us room to experiment–keeping our roots while continuing to evolve artistically.
We love exploring the “points of connection” where sounds of the world meet and embrace!
Pan is the flute-playing Greek god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds and rustic music. Harmonia is the Greek goddess of symmetry and order. Combined, they are beautiful and with the added suggestion of “World Harmony,” it is a good fit.
